Marketing yourself as a model Can't Post

Marketing yourself as a model, is a very different thing than marketing your artistic or photographic skills.

Too many models have portfolios that are doing very little to market themselves. These portfolios may be filled with great photos, awesome art shots, and often (especially on-line) huge-watermarks and logos for the photographer.

But is that what a potential client (photographer, advertiser, etc) wants to see about you?

It's not about how great the photographers are who took your pictures. It's about how great you look in pictures *their* photographers are going to take.

What you show in your images, and your portfolio should promote YOU as a MODEL, not how great the photographer was.

This is a conflicting interest, and why YOU should get to chose which images you want from any TFP or paid shoot that offers images. What YOU think shows you off best, is often not what the Photographer thinks shows off their skill and talent the best.

It's not YOUR JOB to promote the photographers, but it is their responsibility to give you material you can use to promote yourself.

Think about this next time you are trying to decide between two pictures. Which is better promotion for YOU, if someone is trying to figure out whether to hire or work with you.
